The first thing that we need is  فاعلم انه لا اله الا الله ,

we need to have full belief, know, makrifat and acknowledge Allah, is Allah, The One who created us and everything. 

it means, to know Allah swt is a foundation/basic before to know other thing.

When we know Allah, and we believe/iman upon it, our amal that we do will give benefit to us. If we dont have iman/belief upon it, our amal will not give benefit upon us, yakni will not be counted.

we can have knowledge from the most prestige university in the world yet we never master ilm aqidah and tauhid. then how we want to answer the question in the grave, 

‘wa ma iktikaduka?’ -whats your iktikad? - malaikat mungkar nakir - mungkar the questioner, nakir the hitman.

we answer with our aqidah in this dunya. if we dont learn, what will be our answer then?

malaikat wont ask which university you have attended etc.
