The patterns of Red Herring Thinker or الرنجة الحمراء
One of the distorted and twisted pattern of thinking is called as Red Herring by the western. meanwhile in the ancient kitab mantiq it called as Intisyah al bahs ( انتشار البحث) .
A group of people who have this kinda thought usually dont have focus while discussing and debating and only wasting time and have no benefit.
The logical of the name of the pattern of thought is called as ar-ringga al hambra which means Red Herring fish. it is because the fishermen of the past, when they wanted to protect their fish from being eaten by fox and other animal, they put red herring fish(that has been spoiled) as a bait to out focus the fox and other animal.
This kind of distortion is what some of people have when they debate or discuss things.
FIRST EXAMPLE
We talk about the dangerous of drug to the youth and how to solve it. suddenly, the red herring-style thinker will come up with another topic,
“we know drug is dangerous, but alcoholic beverage is more dangerous than drug and its only waste of money in export and import the alcoholic beverage.”
SECOND EXAMPLE
Ulama had assembled in order to discuss about ahlussunnah wal jamaah and who exactly is the ahlul sunnah wal jamaah. and the red herring-style thinker(who think that their opinion is the most interesting and bombastic) said,
“Yes even though the discussion upon ahlul sunnah wal jamaah, but why it needs to be discussed in chechnya, when we know chechnya follows the russia, and the russia is now killing the umat islam in syria.”
Because of this twisted thoughts, they love to put the wrong natijah(outcome) which is too fast to judge for example by saying this :
When they did the muktamar/discussion of ahlul sunnah in checnya, is equal to they support the russia, and when they support the russia is equal to they are being please/redha umat islam is being killed in syria.
Where the conclusion of “redha to see umat is islam being killed” comes from?
Of course it was from the thought that is not arranged by the proper system from the beginning. therefore the outcome of this kinda thought will only lead to disadvantages and badness/
If you happen to meet this kinda thinker, the red herring thinker, say this to them :
“Please focus on the discussion and dont be out of context.”
