In time of bani israel, theres an ahlul kitab. A big sheikh and have a lot of murid. One day, he was in alley and about to pass through the ahli zina/maksiat/sinners. This sheikh had blessed with karamah by Allah swt, wherever he goes, there will be a cloud up in the sky will also following him. Very knowledgeable sheikh.

And while he was in alley, he was passing through the sinners and theres something spoken in his heart, he cant manage to see those sinners nauzubillah. He looks high upon himself and look down upon thise sinners.
One of those sinners, from afar, he knew he will passing through the big sheikh and his heart feels so ashamed of himself as a sinner and will face a big sheikh. The tawadduk of humbling himself, respecting the big sheikh - the one that very close to Allah! He feel so small and ashamed..

And whn they passing through each other, the big sheikh with riak and proud in his heart, and the sinner with tawadduk, humble heart, the cloud that followed the big sheikh was changing its direction and follow the sinner, not the big sheikh anymore.

Allah swt commanded jibrail as. to send a wahyu to rasulullah ﷺ in that time to tell those two to start their amal/practice of islam back from zero.
Because of the big sheikh’s riak and proud of himself that he felt toward the sinner, Allah swt destroyed all of his amal for his whole life.
And because the sinner felt tawadduk, ashamed, humble in his heart towards the big sheikh, Allah swt destroyed all of his sins for his whole life. Hes like a baby, no sin.

Look at how Allah swt honored the one who humble himself, and humiliated the one who riak and proud of himself.

Ulama tarbiyah said, the sign of the truly jahil in a person is when he look highly of himself and look down to others and proud. And he believes everything others said abt himself rather than his confidence of his own capabilities. He knws if people knw what he did behind a closed door/behind a tabir(while hes alone), people will spit on his face(because of the bads/aib that he did behind a closed door). People will not listen to his word. But he listened to others words saying that hes good, hes nice, hes soleh etc until his world and perspective belive and take what others said rather than the fact that the confidence of his aib of himself(he knw better of himself).

Whn we receive compliment from others, there should be adab within our heart. - the 1st one, ya Allah i know im not deserve this compliment. 2nd one, ya Allah please accept their dua, with their good thoughts of me and upon You, with the honor that You give to me.. (ameen the compliments of others) and may myself really have it.
